Notes for Maria Sophia Fahs:  General Notes: Maria's husband John called her his "little fox" as their surname meant "fox" in English. She told  him that her father (Heinrich Fahs) was a shepherd in Germany and he traveled through the  countryside caring for sheep and could read and write seven dialects, and that in the USA people  brought letters from Germany for him to read to them, and he would write answers and send them  back to the old country. What I remember my grandmother (Fredericka) telling me about her  mother is that she was tiny. Pictures of her father that I saw showed him as being small in stature  with a little goatee and  looking very dapper.

The Gilmeister homestead was about 5 miles east out of Lockport on the corner of Shaeffer (sp?)  Rd (facing this road with the Schaeffer farm across from the Gilmeister farm) and Simpson Rd with  the Simpson wooded property butted up behind the Gilmeister property.- From John Oliver

Albert James McGraw. He was born on 13 Mar 1877. He died on 08 Dec 1959 in Lockport,  Niagara, New York, USA.

Notes for Albert James McGraw:  General Notes: Born 13 Mar 1877 , he is the original Albert James McGraw. He was known as “Jim.” He told  family that he was born in Canada and swam the Niagara River at Lewiston to the U.S. He  obtained U.S. citizenship by serving in the Phillipines in the Spanish American War as a bugler.

Conversely as to birthplace,  he is listed in the 1910 Census of Lockport City (part of) Niagara  County, New York, living on Franklin Street, as MCGRAW, GEORGE age 33 b,New York fa.  b.New York, mo. b.New York; wife FREDERICKA age 32, 4 children fa. b.Germany mo.  bGermany.”(He was the only licensed rigger in western New York. He told that as a rigger he  could remove the barge in the River from the Canadian side.) Also, conversely as to birthplace, he is listed in the 1920 Census Lockport Niagara Co. New York,  living on South Street, as MCGRAW, JAMES age 42 b.New York fa. b.New York.. mo. b.New  York; wife FREDERICKA  age 42, 5 children (including MARY ELSIE age 8 on census should be  age 9 as born 3 March 1911 same birthdate as her father). His occupation is listed as “put in  chimneys” and name of  business “Bray Foundry.”
